The Person-Driven Life...

My young disciplemaking friend, Tim Brown, Pastor of Student Ministries at CrossPoint Church in East Peoria, IL, recently preached about The Disciplemaking Genius of Jesus.

What made the preaching so rich and transformative was the fact that Tim actually aspires to live what he preached. It wasn't just good biblical information. It's a simple, yet world-changing, Jesus-like disciplemaking way of life.

Preaching the disciplemaking genius of Jesus—without aspiring to live and share the disciplemaking genius of Jesus—would be impotent. Consider what Paul wrote to the church that considered themselves to be sophisticated intellectuals: "For the kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; It is living by God's power." —I Corinthians 4:20

My dear and longtime disciplemaking friend, Paul Cone, introduced me to Tim. Before long, Tim joined our Central IL Disciplemaking Learning Community (DLC) where we aspire to study, live, and share the disciplemaking genius of Jesus—like this

It's deceptively simple: Be disciples who make disciples—who make more disicples.

Yet, we seem to be great at everything except making disicplemakers. But think with me here: What happens when we succeed at everything in the church world but disciplemaking? Carefully consider this.

The Jewish people of Jesus' day never forgot that they were God's people. However, it seems they forgot WHY God chose them (see Genesis 12:1-3).

What about us?

Have WE forgotten WHY we're the church?

Has the church become the object of her own affections?

"The Christian life isn't just a purpose-driven life, but first and foremost it's person-driven life. If we get the person right, we'll get the purpose right."

Why is all this so important? Here's a thought worth considering.
